AHLEI Managing Housekeeping Practice Exam

Regular wiping with disinfectants is essential for non-porous surfaces in the bathroom, as these surfaces include materials like tile, glass, and certain types of plastic and acrylic. Such surfaces are resistant to water and stains, but they can still harbor germs and bacteria that pose health risks if not cleaned properly. Using disinfectants during routine cleaning helps to eliminate harmful microorganisms and maintain a hygienic environment, which is especially important in high-use areas like bathrooms.

In contrast, frequent deep scrubbing is generally not necessary for non-porous surfaces because they do not absorb dirt or stains like porous materials do. Daily rinsing with water may help to remove loose debris but does not disinfect the surface, and weekly polishing is usually not required as it does not contribute to hygiene and is more appropriate for certain finishes rather than functional cleaning.
